Design Utility Locates for Surveyors

At Know Before You Dig Locates, we use a combination of industry-proven technologies to trace, verify, and interpret buried utility infrastructure. No single tool is effective in every condition, so our technicians apply the right method based on utility type, site conditions, soil composition, and known risk factors.

Utility Mapping Support for Surveyors

Offer your clients complete subsurface utility data—without investing in equipment or learning advanced locating techniques. At Know Before You Dig Locates, we partner directly with survey firms to deliver field-verified underground utility data that supports your survey deliverables and integrates cleanly into your topo surveys and base plans. Our work is intended to complement survey and engineering workflows, not replace them.

We Support Surveyors and SUE firms. We’re Not Engineers.

We are not surveyors or engineers, and we do not produce stamped Subsurface Utility Engineering deliverables.

Our role is to support survey firms by providing reliable, field-based private utility line locating, documentation, and coordination that strengthens your deliverables and reduces uncertainty for your clients.

Many of the surveyors we work with either maintain internal SUE capabilities or are in the process of building them. We regularly support those teams during early growth phases by providing locating services, workflow support, and field coordination while their internal programs are established.

Why Surveyors Work With Us

We’re not surveyors—and we don’t compete with you. Instead, we work behind the scenes to enhance your deliverables with accurate, field-verified underground utility data.

  • You remain the primary contact for your client—we support your offering discreetly in the background.

  • We use EM locating, GPR, and site correlation to identify publicly owned and privately owned buried utility lines and underground facilities.

  • We’ll coordinate directly with your crew to ensure our markings are accurately picked up and integrated into your topo or CAD deliverables.

  • New to utility data integration? No problem—we can help you set up symbology, labeling, and even walk your team through our workflow.

  • Our locate data is clean, clearly marked, and includes photo documentation and clear identification of known information and uncertainty to support your drafting process.

What You Get

  • Utility Record Research and Compilation
We gather and review available utility records to establish known underground conditions on or near the project site.

  • Surface Feature Identification and Correlation
We identify and interpret visible utility appurtenances such as valves, pedestals, manholes, hydrants, and meter connections to support field understanding and data integration.

  • Field-Based Private Utility Line Locating
We use electromagnetic locating, sonde tracing, and ground penetrating radar to identify publicly owned and privately owned buried utility lines and underground facilities where confirmation is possible.

  • Field Markings and Documentation
We provide clear field markings, photo documentation, and summary reporting to support interpretation and integration into survey or CAD deliverables.

  • Coordination Support
From initial planning through final topo submission, we support your workflow to ensure located utility data fits seamlessly into your deliverables.

⚠️ We provide field-verified utility data to support survey and engineering workflows. Assignment of Quality Levels and production of stamped SUE deliverables remains the responsibility of the engineer or SUE provider of record.

No Equipment Investment. No Learning Curve. Just Partnership.

Whether you’re bidding on a large project or want to offer more value to your clients, we’ll help you deliver more complete data - above and below ground.
